Sintra

It seems that Lisbon had run out of 7-seater cars, so we had to get a huge Fiat transporter van that could hold a soccer team, not ideal for the old narrow laneways of Lisbon. After making it out of town, parking this monster was the next issue, but with that task conquered, we joined a Sintra circuit bus full of elderly Spaniards that Mira was deep in conversation with. We got off at the Quinta da Regaleira well that felt like it belonged on the set of Labyrinth with David Bowie looming around the next window. Then we went to the royal Pena Palace and in continuation of the cinematic theme, this felt like we entered a Wes Anderson movie set with crazy beautiful bright colours and extravagant turrets. It was amazing to watch the sunset from here.

We finally left Sintra around 9pm for the 300km trip to the southern most beaches of Portugal over the golden gate bridge at 140km/hr.
