Porto

Flying in on a midnight flight from Marseilles we arrived at our apartment in the heart of Porto to a bustling Saturday night of partying and noisy merriment. Not a bad place to wake up to celebrate Zoe's birthday. We walked down the hill to the Ribera with the light bending around the corners of the beautiful old patina buildings. We took a funicular up the southern hill to get a view across all of Porto. The view was expansive and the terracotta roofs that stretched as far as the eye could see contrasted against the blue skies. In the afternoon we went to the Serralves Museum with its art deco mansion and sprawling gardens. Mira further developed her performance art techniques by sprawling herself on the ground in front of her favourite pieces. The croissants here are more bready, but we are becoming Portuguese tart connoisseurs with a birthday candle placed in the centre of a special one. The porto tonico is definitely the drink of the town.
