Exploring Colombo

Today we explored Pettah Markets. Streets were full of everything colourful and on mass. The kids did a bit of haggling and then we made our way to the old colonial Fort area. Many buildings had been restored and we had lunch at a lofty old Dutch hospital. We walked up to the lighthouse where you could see that they were still rebuilding Colombo from ten years ago. In the afternoon we made our way to a psychedelic Buddhist temple (Gangaramaya Temple) where the kids entertained the laughing monks with their circus tricks. We paddled inside a big swan around a lake racing other Sri Lankan families and the kids enjoyed a rosewater icy pole before we headed home.
